Making Your Pull-out Sofa Bed More Comfortable

1. Flip the mattress. Open the sofa bed and remove the mattress from the frame. Flip the mattress over and rotate it lengthwise. Sleeper sofa mattresses should be rotated in the same way as regular bed mattresses every six months so they will wear evenly. Replace the mattress every few years if the bed is used daily.

2. Add extra cushioning. Purchase a pillow-top mattress cover and put it on the bed. Choose a cover filled with down or other soft, thick material. Select the thickest cover available to add depth and comfort to the mattress. Look for a cover with fitted corners wide enough to accommodate the sleeper sofa frame.
3. Use comfortable bedding. Place a fitted sheet over the mattress cover. Select sheets with a high thread count for maximum comfort and durability. Add a top sheet and a large blanket or a comforter: No one sleeps well on a pull-out couch with a blanket that is too small or old and uncomfortable.
4. Fill the gaps between the pull-out couch arms and the bed with pillows. Use cylindrical bolsters to pad any exposed metal parts so that sleepers aren’t exposed to the folding mechanism. Add bolsters to fill the gap between the top of the mattress and the back of the convertible sofa.

1. Before you fold up the convertible sofa bed, remove the pillow top mattress cover along with the other bedding. Fluff the mattress cover in a dryer on the no-heat setting before each use.
2. Clean the mattress regularly. Vacuum both sides to clean away dust, allergens and other pests.
