It’s unnerving to see a beautiful hardwood floor scratched and dented by furniture carelessly sliding across its surface. Some types of furniture, such as chairs and light sofas, will slide when someone sits down. You can stop furniture from slipping by placing certain materials on the bottom of the furniture legs.
Things You’ll Need:
- Rubber disks
- Gripper pads
- Carpet
- Utility knife
- Plastic cups
- Bumper feet
- Furniture sliders
- Place rubber disks (or saucers) under the legs of the furniture. The disks can easily be found at home improvement stores. They are also simple to install.
- Place gripper pads on the bottom of the furniture legs. Gripper pads come with a self-stick backing and make it much harder for the furniture to slide.
- Cut small circles out of a spare carpet with a utility knife. Place the carpet circles under the legs of the furniture with the top of the carpeting facing down.
- Place small plastic cups on the bottom of the furniture legs. This method is the cheapest solution.
- Place bumper feet under the furniture legs. Bumper feet work the same way as rubber disks, but are taller and cover more of the legs.
- Place furniture sliders on the bottom of furniture legs. Furniture sliders are designed to help move furniture, but will also prevent the furniture from slipping.
Use wider floor protectors for heavier pieces of furniture.
