Restoring The Cracks in Your Leather Furniture

Leather has the tendency to dry out and form cracks if you do not keep it properly moisturized with leather oil. Caring for your leather furniture involves treating it with the appropriate chemicals and oils that it requires to stay smooth and soft.

You need to restore cracks in leather quickly or it may become torn over time and then you will have to resort to more drastic treatments. Fortunately, there are several remedies on the market that are good for fixing cracked leather furniture, if you treat it in time.

Things You’ll Need:

* Shoe polishing brush
* Leather repair kit
* Leather protector oil
* 240-grit sandpaper

Rub the leather gently with a soft shoe brush to take off any dust, dirt or grime that may be on the furniture.

Purchase a leather repair kit and fill the cracks with a specially formulated leather filler that is the same color as your furniture. Sand it down to a smooth finish with 240-grit sandpaper when it dries.

Rub in the scratched leather solution that comes with the repair kit. Let it dry overnight and do not touch the furniture until it dries completely.

Apply a leather furniture protector to the newly restored cracks. Leather protector oils the surface and keeps it from becoming dry and cracking. Reapply this oil every six months.

Tips & Warnings

You can buy a leather repair kit online or at a furniture store.

Do not use harsh leather cleaners on your furniture; it isn’t necessary.
