History Of Broadway Furniture
A little bit of our history
(please note: our history section is still under construction)
For four generations Broadway Furniture has been serving the furniture needs of the West Coast and Portland Oregon.
Our dad, Harry Shleifer started the business in 1935 with $100 in his pocket when he offered to buy hotel furnishings and resell them in the used furniture business he created on 2nd avenue in Portland .
Later, Harry’s father helped with the start up of a new store selling furniture on the East Side of Portland .
The present Broadway Furniture location was the last of three locations that were established over time. Being the largest store it was decided to consolidate all of the business into the larger Broadway Furniture Store as it now exists.
The philosophy of Broadway Furniture has always been to provide better quality furniture at value pricing. This policy of providing exceptional value in furniture and customer service has been the hallmark of Broadway Furniture for over 75 years.
As you browse through the five showrooms in Broadway Furniture, you will run across a Sailboat built by my dad, Harry, right in his backyard here in Portland, when he was 13 years old.
A pretty amazing construction at any age! And it is still in sailing condition
Among his many achievements Harry also became a champion Body Builder winning many awards.
Broadway Furniture has sponsored little league baseball, city basketball leagues, and many civic projects.
Broadway Furniture was the first furniture store in the Pacific Northwest to bring a Gallery program to a retail store.
We have had a great relationship with The Oregonian over the years.
