Buying Organic Duvet Covers

by Marcelene C. Cook

Buying Organic Duvet Covers can be considered a necessary expenditure  since, we cover ourselves at night, this equals around 1/3 of our life.  And wouldn’t you want to be covered by something healthy? Organic Duvet Covers

USA, Australia, Europe, and some other countries of the world produce the raw materials of these covers known as cotton. Organic and inorganic or conventional, are two ongoing methods of cultivation of cotton over the globe.

In 2010, a total of 101 million bales of cotton produced in USA leaving a great concern for humans because of the method of production. In 1992, 6 largest cotton cultivating states of USA produced 2.5 million tons of cotton and used 600,408 tons of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers, and other such chemicals.

If we count other cotton producing countries statistics, the amount of chemicals used stands on 6 million tons. Only 2.4% agricultural lands are used for cotton where chemical used for that is about 25%. Isn’t it our liability to allow organic cotton to reduce the use and production of 25% pesticides?

The next area of concern is that only 10% of the pesticides used remains on the plant and remaining 90% dissolve into the air, water, and ground. The matter of consideration is that if we remain with conventionally produced cotton, we are contributing 5.4 millions tons of chemical into the ground, water and air per year.

In this case, we will be contributing to regaining soil fertility, biodiversity, and reducing use of toxic materials. It is our choice whether we will use organic duvet covers or not.

These pesticides remain in the cotton which have to be washed out before going for further reuse, otherwise it will destroy the different organs of humans. To remove the pesticides, chemical treatment is done with the help of some heavy metals and toxic astringents which ultimately add to the cotton at the end.

Chemicals are simply absorbed by the skin with the pores when they are placed on or next to skin and mixed with the bloodstreams. Now, just think whether you will have a nice dream or absorb chemicals by your skin while you fall asleep.

As poor cotton farmers cultivate cotton manually, they are continuously exposed to the lethal toxic materials every day. More than a million people a year in developing world are suffering from mild to severe poisoning from exposure to pesticides on cotton and this is the result of a recent study by a famous organization.

At the end of day you have to think whether you will sleep with a sweet dream covered in your organic duvet covers or absorb toxic materials throughout the night.
